2022-23 Red Ribbon week

The Southern California chapter hosted a table for Red Ribbon Week! There, they had students from San Marino High School pledge against tobacco, confirming it by writing their names on a poster. The president, Gianna Karkafi, also had the opportunity to speak in front of the students.

2022-23 IYTC x AYC

The Southern California branch was invited to speak at the Asian Youth Center about tobacco control! There, they visited the youth at these programs, sharing presentations with them weekly.

Tobacco Free Summer Fundraiser

The Southern California chapter conducted its “Tobacco Free Summer” fundraiser. Thank you to all the friends of IYTC who made contributions. Proceeds will continue to fund our online education series.

Be Smart Don't Start

The Southern California chapter had just hosted another event for the "Be Smart, Don't Start Series" this April. With different students coming from various elementary schools, we were able to do numerous different activities, such as drawing and an egg hunt. During the presentation section of the event, The Southern California Regional Officers were able to present about the environmental consequences that arise from tobacco, as well as how to combat peer pressure that may negatively impact other peers. Overall, it was not only a great experience, but also a valuable opportunity for the Southern California Regional Officers to connect with youth of a younger age.

Be Smart Don't Start

The Southern California Chapter has just finished two more events in the "Be Smart, Don't Start" series. Presenting to over 60 students, we shared the environmental harms of tobacco as well as the negative implications of peer pressure. After our presentation, we were able to do an arts and crafts activity with the students. The activity was making paper plate submarine windows that demonstrate what a healthy environment looks like. At last, we were able to sign the "Be Smart, Don't Start" pledge with the students!

IYTC x Aurora town hall

The Illinois chapter initiated a strategy to increase their involvement in state-level tobacco legislation by organizing monthly town hall meetings. These gatherings served as a platform for them to communicate with local legislators about the status of tobacco-related bills and to brainstorm ways in which IYTC could contribute to the advancement of these bills.

IYTC x Middle schools

The Illinois chapter took proactive steps to raise awareness about the dangers of vaping among the youth in the Chicago district. They organized educational events at three middle schools, providing students with valuable information about the risks associated with vaping. These events aimed to empower the younger generation with knowledge and equip them with the tools needed to make informed decisions regarding their health and well-being.

IYTC x IMSA

With a spirit of fun and learning, the Illinois Chapter decided to blend education with the festive spirit of the season with an event at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy on October 31st. As part of their initiative, they treated the audience in the hall of 1506 to a 'trick or treat' experience, where they delved into the intricacies of the tobacco industry's deceptions and rewarded the attendees with delightful treats if they answered the trivia questions correctly.

2022-23 Donut Fundraiser

The Northern California chapter held a Krispy Kreme fundraiser at the Basis Independent Fremont Lower School. IYTC got to keep 50% of the total profits. Proceeds will continue to fund our online education series.

Kaiser x IYTC

The Northern California chapter provided pamphlets to the Kaiser Permanente Teen Clinic. These pamphlets will be at the teen clinic and doctors will be able to hand them out or teenagers will be allowed to grab them.

Red Ribbon week: Hopkins Junior School “Be Smart Don’t Start”

The Northern California chapter hosted an educational event at Hopkins Junior High school to inform the middle school students about the effects of tobacco use and steps they can take to stop the use of tobacco.

IYTC x Health Committee

On October 11th, IYTC members met with Representative Dan Frankel of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, who is also Democratic co-chair of the Health Committee, to discuss methods of youth advocacy for pending House Bill 1657! HB1657 was introduced in September and makes amendments to the PA Clean Indoor Act to close loopholes, expand definitions to include e-cigarettes, and install other protections against secondhand smoke in workplaces. Harms of Tobacco Marketing Tactics

IYTC PA's first event was a success and a perfect way to close off this term! We talked to over a hundred high school students about the harms of tobacco, deceptive marketing tactics, and statistics regarding tobacco use.
