International Youth Tobacco Control is a 501(c)3 nonprofit comprised of 200 students in the US, Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Philippines, and Saudi Arabia.  Through legislative reform and educational awareness, we seek to prevent teenage tobacco use globally. From hosting "No Tobacco" weeks in China to working with Disney to prevent on-screen smoking to incorporating tobacco awareness in local curriculum in the Philippines, we have spread awareness to over 120,000 youths. Legislatively, we have passed HR 2339 in the House of Representatives, spoke at state senate press conferences for SB38, and campaigned in Los Angeles and Hollywood, all of which impacted 14 million adolescents.

 

It is important to address the issue of teenage tobacco use because currently 3 million--or 20% of--high school students reported vaping, and therefore suffer from irreversible damages, and according to the National Institute of Health, this is an increase of up to 75% from only last year.  With the mission statement, “every teen deserves a healthy life,” IYTC is a group of middle school, high school, and college students working to combat this culture, which is why we need your help.

 

May 31st is the World Health Organization’s “World No Tobacco Day,” and we are running a month-long educational campaign for students nation-wide to express, in art or writing, their experiences with tobacco products in their school, family, and community and why they choose to stay tobacco-free. Your donation will help us fund this contest and create a series of online peer to peer interactive activities from our student members to elementary and middle school students about the harms of tobacco, how to recognize marketing tactics, and how to combat peer pressure.
